Hi Murray Council. I am at a loss as to why there is 100mtrs of unmade side road on Nicholas Drive between Jacana and Kildare as per attached photo. Please advise. Also, the speed limit sign on Martin Road on entering from Cobb Hwy is 50K. When entering from 24 Lane, one can only assume it is 80K or even 100K ? Please install speed limit signs that designate the speed zones on this road. Thanks for your attention to these matters. Adrian Schulz Lot 6 DP 1009556

    Good afternoon Adrian,

Thank you for the enquiry regarding the unmade side road on Nicholas Drive, between Jacana and Kildare.

    • The urban roadside works will occur when the relevant landowner, or developer, undertake their development which usually includes design and construction of their property. At that time the developer will be responsible for the kerb, guttering and completion of this section of the road.
    • Currently the land owner has a Development Application (DA) on the adjacent block along Nicholas Drive, between Jacana Avenue and Kildare Avenue (northern side) where the road is unmade.  When the development is completed, the unmade section will then be sealed.  The expiry date for this application is November 2022, however the developer may apply for an extension at that time.

With regard to the speed limits we provide the following response:

    • Beer Road signs were erected last week.  When there are no indicative signs you should proceed at the speed limit of the zone you are coming from.

Barham Truck stop - 5Km from Barham. It would be a good project to have improvements eg: toilet facility, park bench and seats under shelter and of course tree planting around the truck stop itself. It is used frequently by Trucks, caravans and cars etc. Is anything going to be done. Submitted by Bervene Lake

Murray River Council is pleased to confirm that the upgrade to the Barham Truck Stop is commencing this week and will accommodate caravan parking and dump point, toilet facilities and a truck and general parking area.  Due to some additional funding being received, work will commence this financial year and continue into the next financial year.  The program of works are as follows:

    • Culvert installation - week commencing 18 May 2020
    • Septic tank system installation - week commencing 25 May 2020
    • Concrete slab construction for the toilet block - week commencing 25 June 2020
    • Pavement construction will be completed, dependant upon weather conditions.

Tree planting in the area which will be undertaken separately.

will there to be proper attempts to accelerate past "red tape" delays that slowed councils efforts in dealing with developers frustrations historically. This is NOT a criticism, but an effort to address and recognise what has been a common complaint.

kronnich asked almost 4 years ago

Great question Kron. As you know the Council adopted an early draft of the Local Strategic Planning Statement (the Councils vision for the next twenty years in terms of planning, the environment, economy and development) at the end of last year This has now been developed further and we are currently engaging with the community through our website/portal for you to have your say on the vision. Out of this process a new Local Environment Plan, Housing Strategy and other strategic planning documents will follow so that by the end of this year there will be a completely new planning framework to determine planning matters. The challenges with regard to “red tape” are acknowledged by Council and the new strategic work is our way of simplifying the planning system for our community and to enable them to navigate the system much more easily than they are able to do now or previously. Obviously our plans will still require “sign off” by the relevant State Government agencies but we are confident that during the process we have been in regular consultation with the Department of Planning Industry and the Environment and that as a result there will hopefully be no “red flags” for our developed strategies.
