Rates Harmonisation

Consultation has concluded

Consultation period has now closed

All NSW merged Councils are required to review their rates and create one “harmonised” equitable, general rating structure.

As part of this process, Council formed a 10-person community rates review panel, made up of ratepayers from across the LGA and from each rating category (farmland, business, residential).

The panel recommended a set of principles for the new rate structure which has become the basis of the preferred rate structure that was adopted by Council to come into effect from July 1, 2020.

Consultation on this matter has ended, however you can still view information on the rates modelling in the Key Documents panel to the right.

____________

Council recognises that there are cases of genuine financial hardship requiring respect and compassion in special circumstances. Council has adopted a Financial Hardship Assistance Policy, which is available in the Related Information document library.

  • Hi I live at Murray Downs, is there any time soon we could possibly have:- (A) a green bin (b) a hard rubbish pickup (C). during autumn regular street sweeping each week for all the leaves that block our gutters on the road. This would surely bring us in line with the rest of the country. Also, will the walking track from Murray Downs to Swan Hill be sealed please. Cheers

Jenny asked over 4 years ago

    Hi Jenny,

Council’s new Waste Management Team has been working very hard on developing a Waste Management Strategy that, once rolled out, will bring many benefits and efficiencies to the community as well as a synergistic balance of services across the entire region. Specific projects will be individually announced and rolled out once we have developed methodologies that offer a balance of best practise together with sustainable and economic efficiency.

    Hi Jenny,

With regards to your question about the walking track please find the response as follows:

Over the past couple of years Council has laid approx. 1.5 km of bicycle/ walking track at Murray Downs. To date these works have been funded through State Funded Grants. Council has been assessing savings achieved through other projects and is hoping to deliver another 1km of path in coming months which should go to the Swan Hill road. Council is also seeking other funding opportunities to continue the path in to Swan Hill.
