Murray River Council has secured $1.08 million in grant funding to deliver placemaking and public realm upgrades to the southern entry of Moama, centred around Meninya Street near the Kerrabee Soundshell.
This area is a key gateway into Moama and plays an important role in shaping first impressions for residents, visitors and event attendees.
What the project will deliver
The project will improve the look, functionality and accessibility of the area through:
Removal of existing buildings to improve site layout and open space
Construction of a new standalone public amenities building, including an accredited Changing Places facility
Streetscape improvements including expanded greenspace, upgraded footpaths, and improved lighting
Relocation of the existing PTV bus stop (subject to feasibility and stakeholder approvals)
Construction of 45-degree angled parking on Blair Street, including two accessible (DDA compliant) bays
Why this project matters
This project is about more than just infrastructure, it’s about improving how people experience Moama.
Key benefits include:
Stronger town identity - Enhancing a major entry point creates a more welcoming and attractive gateway into Moama.
Supporting tourism and events - Improved public spaces near the Soundshell will better support events, visitors and local activity.
Better accessibility for everyone - New pathways, seating and a Changing Places facility will provide inclusive access for people of all abilities.
Safer and more connected spaces - Improved lighting, pedestrian links and transport connections will make the area easier and safer to use.
More usable green space Increased open space will support passive recreation, community use and future activation.
What to expect
During the construction stages, locals and visitors can expect:
Temporary impacts to site access, parking and footpaths
Public transport (bus stop) will be temporarily relocated during construction
Project updates will be provided prior to any changes and/or interruptions
