Moulamein Flood Mitigation Infrastructure Upgrades
Murray River Council has progressed to the design phase of upgrades to Moulamein’s flood mitigation infrastructure.
The proposed works focus on strengthening the Moulamein Water Treatment Ring Levee, improving stormwater backflow prevention, and addressing weaknesses in some other areas of the levee system. These upgrades aim to enhance flood resilience and protect key community infrastructure.
The design details
There are three areas of mitigation, as listed below. You can view the concept designs via the documents tab on this page.
Design - DSE24043-02_1: Construction of a ring levee around the Moulamein Water Treatment Plant to protect the town’s drinking water supply during floods.
Design - DSE24043-03_1: Installation of a permanent levee between the lake and Tchelery Road to eliminate the need for temporary levees during flood events.
Design - DSE24043-01_2: Implementation of stormwater backflow prevention infrastructure to stop river floodwaters from entering the stormwater network, plus the addition of a footpath along the levee at Triangle Park.
Community impact
Works for the stormwater outlets and footpath along the levee at Triangle Park are scheduled to commence April 2025 and will be ongoing until August 2025.
Works for Moulamein Water Treatment Plant Levee and permanent levee between the lake and Tchelery Road are estimated to occur in 2026.
Construction-related disruptions (such as traffic management) may occur but will be managed to reduce inconvenience.
All upgrades will take place on Council land, road reserves, or around the treatment plant—no private property will be affected.
