Murray River Council is progressing with upgrades to Moulamein’s flood mitigation infrastructure.
The works focus on strengthening the Moulamein Water Treatment Ring Levee, improving stormwater backflow prevention, and addressing weaknesses in some other areas of the levee system. These upgrades aim to enhance flood resilience and protect key community infrastructure.
Completed works
Stormwater outlet upgrades with new backflow prevention infrastructure to stop river floodwaters entering the stormwater network.
New footpath along the levee at Triangle Park, improving both protection and community access.
Still to come
There are two remaining areas of mitigation, as listed below.
1. Construction of a ring levee around the Moulamein Water Treatment Plant to protect the town’s drinking water supply during floods.
2. Installation of a permanent levee between the lake and Tchelery Road to eliminate the need for temporary levees during flood events.
Community impact
Works for Moulamein Water Treatment Plant Levee and permanent levee between the lake and Tchelery Road are estimated to occur in 2026.
Construction-related disruptions (such as traffic management) may occur but will be managed to reduce inconvenience.
All upgrades will take place on Council land, road reserves, or around the treatment plant—no private property will be affected.
Interested community memberscan view the proposed designs via the documents tab on this page.
