Consultation has concluded


Barham residents now have more reliable filtered water pressure thanks to a new booster pump installed at the water treatment plant.

During our Community Strategic Planning Sessions in early 2022, the community raised concerns about the low filtered water pressure across the township. There were noticeable fluctuations in pressure, with some areas of town being worse than others.

Following some initial maintenance work and detailed modelling on usage and flows, a booster pump was designed to offer a more stable supply of water across the town.

Following the installation of the pump early in 2024 and some town-wide mains flushing, the water quality and pressure has been drastically improved.

    In addition to the installation of the booster pump, we will also be investigating the installation of a fluoride dosing system at the site.

    Water utilities add fluoride to drinking water to help reduce tooth decay in children and adults.

    Fluoride is a natural mineral found in soil, rocks, and water, but the water in the rivers and dams that provide our drinking water do not have enough fluoride to prevent tooth decay. Today, almost all public drinking water supplies in NSW are fluoridated.

    The ongoing works at Barham's treatment plant to address the pressure issues have offered the opportunity to address the fluoridation requirements at the same time; so we have been working in the background to redesign the water treatment plant and its pumps to possibly incorporate a fluoride dosing system in the future.
