Council is completing a review of the Barham Flood Study, with support from our consultants, Water Technology.
The review will ensure mapping and plans capture all relevant data to support flood preparedness and response activities in the future.
Project overview
The Barham Flood Study Review will update the Murray River flood modelling for the Barham township, building on earlier work completed in 2014 and 2017. This review will add local stormwater modelling for the catchments surrounding Barham, giving a clearer picture of how both riverine and local runoff flooding impact our community.
The updated models will be calibrated using data from:
The 2016 and 2022 Murray River flood events.
Local storm events on 25 December 2023 and 8 January 2024.
This information will help Council and emergency services better understand flood behaviour, improve flood risk management, guide land use planning, and strengthen our emergency response.
Your input
Murray River Council and Water Technology are inviting residents to share:
Photos and videos of the 2016, 2022, 25 December 2023, and 8 January 2024 flood or storm events.
Personal observations from these events.
Details of any known issues with Barham’s stormwater or drainage network.
This valuable information will help ensure the study accurately reflects local experiences and conditions.
