River Country Art Trail

The River Country Art Trail project will feature a series of large-scale murals on water towers in Barham, Mathoura, Moulamein, and Moama, along with a large-scale sculpture in Tooleybuc. Together, these artworks will create an exciting outdoor gallery across the Murray River Council area.

Funded through Round 2 of the Regional Tourism Activation Fund, this project aims to create iconic artworks that highlight and enhance the region’s unique identity. These high-quality, engaging pieces will attract visitors to the regional towns, showcasing their natural and historical assets. They will become landmarks, encouraging visitors to stop, explore, and appreciate these townships and the surrounding areas.

Project nearing completion....

Following extensive community engagement and a rigorous selection process, we’re excited to welcome renowned artists DULK, Twoone, Heesco, Gus Eagleton, and Stuart Green, each bringing unique visions to life across our communities.

The Mathoura water tower is now beautifully adorned with a vibrant mural thanks to Spanish artist DULK. His nature-inspired artwork brings the spirit of the region to life, marking the first installation in the River Country Art Trail.

Japanese-born artist Twoone has also completed the Moama Water tower. The mural blends the beauty of nature with local birdlife and is the second milestone in the River Country Art Trail.

Following on from the other eye-catching artworks, the Barham piece by renowned artist Gus Eagleton is another exciting milestone in the trail. The work captures the heroes and icons of the local area in extraordinary detail.

And....the final water tower installation in Moulamein is now also complete. Created by Heesco, the towering mural captures the unique identity of Moulamein through themes of history and heritage, natural environment, and community spirit.

The final piece of the River Country Art Trail is coming to life in Tooleybuc, with installation of our large-scale sculpture set to begin in Mensforth Park at the end of March 2026.

Following community input and a thorough selection process, the chosen design, “Gathering the Bounty” by Stuart Green will soon take shape.

Standing 11 metres tall, the sculpture symbolises the Riverina’s abundance, with Tooleybuc at its heart. A giant figure representing the Murray River gathers the region’s produce, while brightly coloured fruit at the base will provide playful seating by day and glow beautifully at night.

While installation is underway, please enjoy watching the transformation….but remember to respect the artists’ workspace so they can safely and carefully complete this exciting project.
