Why is there a referendum in Murray River Council?

The current Council resolved to instruct the NSW Electoral Commission to put the question to ratepayers about whether they wished to eliminate ward boundaries and become an undivided Local Government Area.

The current wards each have representation from 3 councillors. If it were to become an undivided area, electoral boundaries would be removed, and the 9 councillor seats could be elected from anywhere in the municipality.

Voting in the referendum is compulsory for all those on the electoral role in Murray River Council.

Am I eligible to vote? How do I find my details?

If you are a resident of the Murray River Council Local Government Area (LGA), you can check if your enrollment details are up to date with the Australian Electoral Commission here.

Our LGA is divided into three areas called ‘Wards’ and each ward has three Councillors to represent the people within these areas.

When you check your enrollment status, it would also detail which ward you belong to.

Council does not hold electoral information for local residents.
