Pipeline Project Update – December 2023

Works are nearing completion on the new Koraleigh Raw Water Pipeline and are currently being commissioned for supply of raw water into the new year.

The next steps will be to connect your infrastructure to the new pipeline which we can discuss in the new year.

MRC are looking forward to this project reducing its operation and maintenance costs and expect the new system to provide more surety of water supply on your properties through the hotter summer months.

Pipeline Project Update – September 2023

Planning for works on the new Koraleigh Raw Water Pipeline are progressing well and recently MRC awarded the contracts for both the supply and installation of the pipeline.

Works are expected to get underway in October and are expected to take a few weeks to complete.

It is not expected there will be any disruption to your current water supply, however the next steps regarding connecting your infrastructure to the new pipeline will have to be discussed.

Hopefully you have had a chance to review the plans in town to determine what will be taking place during the construction phase and how the project will change things for you.

MRC are looking forward to this project reducing its operation and maintenance costs and we will be providing some more details shortly relating to the rebates that will be applicable through crediting of your water bills.

Pipeline Update - August 2023

The Koraleigh Raw Water Pipeline Design has been completed and Council will be looking to enter the installation phase shortly.

The tender period for works and pipeline supply will close August 16 and Councill will be then proceeding to appoint a contractor for the works.

The plans have been displayed in Koraleigh at the Water Trust Building so you may have seen them at some stage. The design caters for services to all properties and connection points are only roughly indicated. There will more information provided shortly regarding the process for the works once a contractor is selected, and also for the subsidies provided to customers for their private pipeline connection works (on your side of the water meter)..

Pipeline Design Phase; May - July 2023

Planning for the design and installation of the Koraleigh Raw Water Pipeline is currently underway following the Flood event of late 2022,

The design contract was let earlier this year, and we have had a meeting with the designers prior to commencement of survey and planning of works etc. The designer, HEC Engineering has been to site and established survey marks and carried out a feature survey of the area. You may have noticed them around town.

A preliminary plan will be placed on display for you to inspect and provide comment on and discuss with the project team. Following establishing of the preliminary design alignment, there will likely be a number of queries arising relating to the impacts of the works, and some of the items may be;

• Internal plumbing - options available considering current infrastructure,
• How to tell raw water meter from filtered water meter?
• What happens if people don't sign up / connect to network?
• Use raw water for pools or dams,
• Raw water will be supplied at high pressure allowing for automatic sprinkler systems to be installed allowing for watering to be done at night and so creating a saving of water.

MRC are intending on completing installation of the pipeline in readiness for next summer. Following the design phase (2-3 months), MRC will tender out the works for construction.

MRC will provide an update over the next few weeks ensuring everyone is aware of progress of the design proposal.

A new Raw Water Supply Pipeline is being proposed for the village of Koraleigh.

The new raw water supply pipeline will provide raw water or river water to each residential property within the village boundary. Water will be pumped directly from the Murray River, via the Bungunyah-Koraleigh Irrigation Trust Pipeline Network to the Koraleigh Water Treatment Plant. Once water reaches the water treatment plant it will either

• be supplied directly to the water treatment plant, where it undergoes a membrane filtration process before being distributed via the filtered water pipe network
• be supplied directly into the raw water pipe network and delivered to residential properties within the Koraleigh village.

There are many benefits for both residents and Council with the installation of the new raw water pipe network.

Residential benefits

• raw or river water will be available for use outside of the house ie - used in gardens and outdoor taps.
• the water will be supplied at a reduced rate compared to filtered water
• high water security and availability during times when it is required ie - summer
• reduces the potential for water restrictions needing to come into place

Council benefits

• increases water security for the village of Koraleigh
• increase ability for Council to undertake works at the Koraleigh Water Treatment Plant - higher water security
• Reduces demand on the Koraleigh Water Treatment Plant - not as much water has to be processed as residents are not watering gardens with filtered water
• Reduces running costs for the Koraleigh Water Treatment Plant

For the raw water network to be of full benefit to residents, it will be your responsibility to change over your internal plumbing to allow for raw water to be used in your garden and for outside taps. Raw water is not fit for consumption and can not be utilised within your household.

Council will undertake and install all plumbing up to and including the new raw water meter and stop tap. It is then the responsibility of the customer to connect the internal pipe network.

The initial survey has now closed and Council is reviewing the feedback.

Further updates will be provided once survey results are confirmed.

Thank you for the responses received to the Murray River Council questionnaire regarding the proposed installation of a new water pipeline supplying the township of Koraleigh.

We will be reviewing the responses in the next few days and expect to work through some of the issues raised in the near future with you.

Following this, it is expected we will proceed to the design stage in preparation for the project to proceed.
