Nominations are accepted in the following categories, with awards presented on January 26 at local Australia Day events. 

CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Open to persons 26 years or older on 26 January 2025 who have made a significant contribution to the development and wellbeing of the community during the past year. It also recognises outstanding community service.

YOUNG CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Open to persons under 26 years of age on 26 January 2025 who have made a significant contribution to the community during the past year. It recognises that this person epitomises the future of our nation.

SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR

Open to persons 26 years or older on 26 January 2025 who have made a contribution to sport in the local area. The award recognises the nominee’s efforts to advance their chosen sporting activity and their performance over the past year.

YOUNG SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR

Open to persons under 26 years of age on 26 January 2025 who have made a contribution to sport in the local area. The award recognises the nominee’s efforts to advance their chosen sporting activity and their performance over the past year. 

COMMUNITY EVENT OF THE YEAR

Open to the person or group who has staged the most outstanding community event during the past year. This may also include virtual events!

COMMUNITY GROUP OF THE YEAR

Open to a community group who have worked hard for the betterment of the community during the past year.

ARTS/CULTURAL AWARD (PERSON OR GROUP)

Open to the person or group who have made a significant contribution to the arts and/or the culture of the Murray River Council area during the past year.


Nominations are open to citizens or groups living in Murray River Council.

Please note: question 9 - your reason for nominating -  requires a minimum of 100 words. Include as much detail as you can as this forms the majority of the material to be assessed by the judging panel. 

Additional details or supporting documents can be included in the attachments (i.e. photos, newspaper or magazine articles about the Nominee and their achievements). 

Failure to provide complete information may result in the nomination not being considered.
